Now, Answered! The Reason Why Yamaha Has No Plans to Sell Electric Motorbikes in Indonesia Market .....

INDOTRENDS.ID - Yamaha says it has no plans to sell electric motorbikes in Indonesia.

This is interesting, because PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing previously carried out proof of concept (PoC) testing on the Yamaha E01 electric motorbike. Testing has been carried out since 2023.

General Manager Marketing - Public Relations PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing, Antonius Widiantoro, stated that currently the POC process for the Yamaha E01 is complete.

But the brand with the tuning fork logo says it has no intention of selling electric motorbikes in the near future.

Test result

The man who is familiarly called Anton stated that the POC that had been carried out in the last few years had been completed. Yamaha will process data from test results for Indonesian consumers.

"POC has achieved the target and we are using the results for development. The motorbike is still here (Indonesia). We are also testing, but internally," said Anton when met on the sidelines of the NMax Turbo launch in Jakarta, Wednesday 12 June 2024.

"We have stopped it for the public because the target has been achieved," he said.

Even though testing has been completed, Yamaha admits that it does not want to sell the Yamaha E01 electric motorbike, or any other type. Unlike the Honda brand, this brand also does not want to announce when sales of electric motorbikes will start.

"Maybe this is part of the introduction process, but in the end it's not for sale because we are more focused on the evaluation. What kind of electric motorbike is needed in Indonesia, is the E01 ideal? Or what kind of specs," explained Anton.

When will Yamaha sell electric motorbikes?

Anton denied the issue that Yamaha did not want to launch an electric motorbike because the market and buyers were few. According to him, currently Indonesian consumers are at the socialization stage.

According to him, time is needed for people to switch from using conventional motorbikes to electric motorbikes.

"Actually, consumers should be educated more deeply because changing the pattern of ordinary people using ICE to electric takes time. Even in the past it took time to just use injection, now everyone is using it," he said.

Anton feels that this process is being carried out. Apart from that, the government has also implemented a 0 emissions policy by 2050.

"This is one of the processes we are carrying out. But when it comes to selling it in Indonesia, there are no plans yet," he said again.

Lack of fans

Please note that sales of electric motorbikes in Indonesia are rather quiet. Even though government subsidies have been provided.

As of 2024, the government will provide subsidies for 600 thousand electric motorbikes amounting to IDR 7 million. However, data shown by the Two-Wheeled Electric Motor Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System (SISAPIRa) as of June 2024, only 33,894 electric motorbikes had been sold.
